At Codimite, we often get caught up in our day to day work, deadlines, meetings, and everything in between. But every now and then, we take a moment to pause and celebrate something that brings us all together. This April, that moment came through Codimite Soorya Mangalya 2026, our Sinhala and Tamil New Year celebration.

It turned out to be one of those days that felt simple, genuine, and full of life from beginning to end.

A Celebration That Felt Close to Home

From the time we arrived, the whole place had a warm and familiar feeling. The setup was inspired by a traditional village house, Gami Gedara, with village style decorations, clay pots, lanterns, and small details that brought back memories of celebrating Awurudu back home.

One of the nicest things to see was how everyone came dressed for the occasion and those traditional outfits added so much color and authenticity to the day.

The day began with the lighting of the oil lamp, a simple tradition but one that always brings a sense of togetherness. After that, the atmosphere slowly came alive with the sound of Raban playing and Awurudu songs filling the background. There was a steady flow of conversations, laughter, and small moments that made the whole event feel relaxed and enjoyable.

The Awurudu Table and New Year Spirit

No Awurudu celebration is complete without food, and the Awurudu table was something everyone looked forward to. It was beautifully arranged with traditional sweets and dishes that reminded us of home.

There was a variety of traditional sweets, kavili, laid out, including Kiribath, Kokis, Kevum, Aluwa, Asmi, and more.

People gathered around the table, not just to eat, but to talk, share, and enjoy the moment. Some were picking their favorites, others were trying everything, and many were simply standing around chatting with a plate in hand.

It was not a rushed meal. It was slow, relaxed, and full of small conversations. That is what made it special. It brought everyone together in a very natural way.

Games, Laughter, and Team Energy

As the morning moved forward, the games began, and the energy of the day shifted completely. What started as a calm and relaxed morning quickly turned into something lively and full of excitement.

Traditional Awurudu games have a way of bringing people out of their shells. It did not matter who you were or what team you belonged to. Everyone got involved in some way.

There were many fun activities throughout the day, including Kana Mutti, lemon and spoon race, Kottapora, sack race, two legged race, and tug of war.

Each game came with its own set of funny moments. Blindfolded attempts at Kana Mutti, careful balancing during the races, and the loud cheering during tug of war made the whole experience unforgettable.

Some people were fully focused on winning, while others were just there to enjoy the moment. Either way, everyone was laughing, encouraging each other, and making memories. It reminded us that teamwork is not only something that happens during work. It also happens during moments like this.

A special highlight of the celebration was the Awurudu Kumara Kumariya segment. Gamindu was crowned Awurudu Kumara, while Ovindi was crowned Awurudu Kumariya, adding even more excitement and color to the day.

A Day to Remember at Codimite

By the time we reached the end of the day, there was a quiet feeling of satisfaction. The closing and award ceremony brought everyone together once more, wrapping up the celebration on a happy note.

Looking back, Codimite Soorya Mangalya 2026 was more than just an event on the calendar. It was a day that showed what our culture really feels like. It showed how people come together, support each other, and enjoy being part of something bigger.
